Triumph of Saint Michael

This painting is one of the few examples with this iconography within Spanish Gothic painting of the late 15th century, at a time immediately preceding the Renaissance, around 1465. In the portrayal, there is a warlike, gallant Saint Michael fighting the infernal dragon, defeating it to subsequently send it back to hell. In this hectic fight, the archangel is protected in the background by the Virgin Mary under whose auspices he will achieve a glorious victory.
